Quartett

By Heiner Müller, Conceived and directed by Robert Wilson, Music by Michael Galasso*

BAM Harvey Theater
651 Fulton St.
Brooklyn, NY

Dear Friends of Robert Wilson,

New York has the hots for Bob and Isabelle Huppert! The great, if not the greatest, French actress stars in Bob’s production of Heiner Mueller’s play QUARTETT that originated at the Odeon Theater in Paris. Quartett is based on Choderlos de Laclos’ letter novel “The Dangerous Liaisions” which was also the source for the ingenious film by the same title with Glenn Close and John Malkovich.

The production is a 100 minute bolt of lightening, a fight for life and death between the Marquise de Merteuil (Huppert) and the Vicomte de Valmont (played by the wonderful Ariel Garcia Valdes), leaving the actors struck to the floor once the curtain closes.

The New York Times calls it “the sexually frankest play in New York this side of a backroom peephole.” About Mme Huppert Ben Brantley writes in his front page review in today’s paper, “But it is the Merteuil of Ms. Huppert that rises to a level of complete, perfectly sustained art.” For the complete review please click here.
